Tsotne Dadiani of cakes

In Georgia’s highland regions, improper grazing, overgrazing, and the lack of proper vegetation rotation have accelerated soil erosion, a key driver of desertification. Excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides during cultivation further degrades the land, turning once fertile fields into semi-arid landscapes. In eastern regions like Kvemo Kakheti and Shirak, wind erosion has caused widespread land degradation, while water erosion affects the country more broadly.

Our poster uses Medoki, the beloved honey cake, to represent this transformation. Its golden, dry textures mirror semi-desert conditions creeping into formerly fertile land, turning a familiar cultural food into a metaphor for soil degradation and desertification.

Infographics paired with the poster illustrate the extent of degraded land and erosion trends, emphasizing that desertification is not just an environmental problem — it threatens agriculture, livelihoods, and the balance of ecosystems in Georgia.
